The program BioEdit can also read back sequences verbally so as to check manually-typed entries. It also features sequence annotation with alignment windows viewing. It includes basic phylogenetic tree viewer and the capability to have the nodes flipped and printed. Using this text editor, researchers can arrange sequences by names, definitions, references, locus, and comments or even by residue. This program has four different modes of alignment namely: gap insert and delete by mouse click, select and slide, grab and drag and on-screen typing.

It is mouse-driven and intended to be used by biologists, engineers, and researchers. BioEdit is software that functions as a program used for sequence analysis and sequence alignment editor.
